National Moth Night
National Moth Night is the annual celebration of moths and moth recording. It is organised by Butterfly Conservation (through the Moths Count project) and Atropos and takes place at a different time of year each year. National Moth Night 2010 took place on Saturday 15 May 2010 but it is not too late to submit your records.
National Moth Night raises awareness of moths and provides opportunities to:
- record moths in your garden or further afield
- get together with friends to record moths
- attend a public event to find out about the wonderful world of moths
- search for target species or select your own
- remember to send in your sightings to build up an important snapshot of what is on the wing
This year's theme was Moths and Bats. These creatures of the night are closely linked both ecologically (moths are an important food source for many bat species) and in terms of the human pressures that they face. Both moths and bats have shown long-term declines and both are much malligned and misunderstand.
